February Meeting Notice
The next meeting of the Melbourne Section of the AES will be held on Mon 13th February 2012 at 7:30pm in Lecture Theatre EN101 at Swinburne Uni, on the topic:
Distortion Control in High Power Woofer Designs
Presented by Michail Barabasz of Lorantz Audio.
Michail will update us on his latest research on loudspeaker drivers and cone technology.
An AES Melbourne Section member, Michail is passionate about all aspects of loudspeaker design.
He has spent many years of research into ‘improving the breed’, and has sponsored PhD level research into cone technology and Finite Element Modelling of loudspeakers.
His current research interest is very low distortion subwoofer drivers, achieving minimal harmonic distortion by virtue of the design of the magnetic circuit, and especially minimal colouration of the sound from the cone under large excursion.
Lorantz Audio was founded in 1976, after Plessey Rola ceased manufacture of loudspeaker drivers.
It is the Melbourne-based Australian manufacturer of high quality and custom drivers.
Lorantz manufactures all the components in Australia, using CNC machinery and custom computer controlled equipment to blend the carefully selected paper types used in cones and dry them in a controlled time.
It specialises in the higher powered loudspeakers for musical instrument applications.
In 1995 Michail was awarded the “Service to the Audio Industry” Award by the AES Melbourne Section for the development and manufacture of loudspeaker technology of the highest quality over 30 years.
