The next Meeting of the Melbourne Section of the AES will be held on
Monday August 5th 2013 at 7:30pm at Swinburne University Lecture Theatre EN101 (directions below)
This is the occasion of the Annual General Meeting of the Section.
Further details on the AGM and Committee Election can be found here.
The brief AGM will be followed by a presentation on the topic:
Microphones 101 – An Introduction to Microphone Theory & Applications
by Dr Rod Staples
Rod is a highly experienced audio and electronics educator, and has presented to the Section previously on
a range of topics. He has proved to be an interesting speaker with a deep knowledge of his subject.
Key topics include:
- Microphone classifications and how these lead to polar patterns, frequency response and sensitivity
- Construction, and acoustical and electrical generation of polar patterns
- Impact of microphone characteristics on microphone choice
- Microphone placement for stereo with some spill-over into surround.
Although this is an “introductory” topic and well suited for students and the less experienced audio
practitioners, Rod’s breadth and depth of coverage, along with his inclination to debunk some “conventional wisdom” ensures that all who attend will take away some fresh knowledge.
