We have set the date of the next AES Melbourne Section Meeting for Mon April 11th
when professional audiologist Alison King will present on the basics of hearing.

This will be the first in a series on the topic of hearing.

On Monday November 16th, 19 members and visitors gathered at the SAE Institute in South Melbourne to hear Ross Garrett of the National Film and Sound Archive, Canberra tell us about their major project of updating the systems used for digitisation of their sound assets.

Meeting Report: Sept 2015 Anatomy of the Loudspeaker Driver

On Monday September 14th 25 members and visitors gathered at the SAE Institute in South Melbourne, and after a short AGM (see separate report) Michail Barabasz of Lorantz Audio gave a presentation on “The Anatomy of the Loudspeaker Driver”.

Michail started by mentioning that he often heard comments about a speaker’s inadequacies when the issue was, in fact the room. He then went into a brief explanation of room effects and ways to separate the speaker performance & room effects by the use of software like Room Eq Wizard, a free room analysis program.

November Meeting Notice: Audio Digitization at NFSA

Meeting Notice

The next meeting of the Melbourne Section of the AES will be held on
Monday November 16th 2015 at 7:30pm at The SAE Institute – Lecture Theatre, 235 Normanby Rd South Melbourne (use Woodgate St entrance – see directions below)

Ross Garrett, Manager – Audio Services at the National Film and Sound Archive (Canberra) will present from his paper, first presented to “The International Association of Sound and Audiovisual Archives (IASA) 2015” annual conference in Paris in September.
