Meeting Notice: August 2019

The next meeting of the AES Melbourne Section will be held on Monday August 12th 2019 at 7:30pm at The SAE Institute – Lecture Theatre, 235 Normanby Rd South Melbourne (directions below).

There will be a short Annual General Meeting of the Section, with reports and officers/committee elections. Visitors and non-members are welcome to sit in on the AGM, but if you have no interest in doing that, you could arrive about 7:45pm when the technical presentation should start.

Preliminary Meeting Notice: Annual General Meeting

The Section’s Annual General Meeting is being planned for Mon August 12th 2019 at the SAE Institute.
This will include Committee Elections. If you are interested in serving on the Committee, please contact us.

Meeting Report: June 2019 MESS

On a cold and damp Melbourne winter evening 13 brave souls gathered at the Melbourne Electronic Sound Studio in North Melbourne to learn more about MESS, and its unique collection of (primarily) analogue synthesisers.

Our host for the night was one of the founders, Byron Scullin.

After introducing himself, and giving a potted history of his career and experiences to date, Byron took us through the role of MESS as a not-for-profit organization founded by Robin Fox and himself. He described it as charity devoted to the housing of a collection of functional classic electronic instruments for musicians to experience creating analog synth music in a workshop environment using hardware, as opposed to today’s software recreations.

Meeting Notice: June 2019

The next meeting of the AES Melbourne Section will be on Monday 3rd June.

It will be a visit to the Melbourne Electronic Sound Studio (MESS) where Byron Scullin will give a talk on:

The Establishment of MESS
&
The History of Electronic Music in Melbourne

Byron will describe the establishment of MESS and its collection. He will also discuss the particular histories of key machines in the collection, as well as answer any questions you may have.
