Martin Benge

Martin Benge’s career spans more than 40 years of continuous involvement in the Australian and UK music recording industries, from engineering apprentice, to recording engineer, producer, studio manager, and more recently independent consultant and radio presenter.
Having stared out in London in the early 1960s Martin worked his way through EMI’s Abbey Road Studios training scheme and went on to fulfill his ambition to be a balance engineer at the studios working on a wide range of recording sessions from rock bands to symphony orchestras.
Martin emigrated to Australia in 1971 and joined EMI Studios in Sydney where he worked as recording engineer before going freelance and branching out into production and forming his own business which operated in Australia until 1993 when he returned to London to take up the position of Vice President of the EMI UK Studios Group which included the recently acquired Virgin Studios as well as the Abbey Road facility.
He returned to Australia 5 years later and formed a consultancy business working on various local and international studio projects including the acquisition, relocation and rebuild of Studios 301 by the SAE Group in Sydney and Byron Bay.
More recently Martin retired from the recording industry and now works as a volunteer radio presenter in the Jervis Bay area on the NSW South Coast.
