Performance Of Centenarian Audio Legend’s First Symphony Happens This Sunday

On Sunday 19th May 2024, the Surrey Hills Orchestra of Melbourne under the baton of Mary Louise-Wright airs the inaugural performance of Monty Maizels’ first symphony, described by the composer as his ‘Seem Funny’.

The venue is the James Tatoulis Auditorium at MLC, Barkers Rd. Kew from 2:30pm.

This is a unique event for Melbourne as Monty will be 101 years old this year, yet remains active including with both composition and with electronic scoring and render of his works.

Prelim Meeting Notice: June 2024

Our next Section meeting is scheduled for Monday June 17th.
Bell maker Anton Hasell (crafter of the Federation Bells) will present on bells, overtones and bells for music.

It will be an in-person event at the Collarts Wellington Street campus, and live-streamed on our YouTube channel.

Meeting Report: 8 April 2024 – Nick Harrison on Game Audio Software & Workflows

On Monday 8th April, the Section conducted a virtual meeting via Zoom where Game Audio educator Nick Harrison presented on the topic of:

Integrating Audio into the Gaming Experience
Software Packages and Workflows.

After a brief introduction from Section Chairman Graeme Huon, Nick started his presentation with an Acknowledgement of Country to the Wurindjeri Woi Wurrung people of the Kulin nation – acknowledging Elders past, present and emerging. He also took a moment to mention the passing of Uncle Jack Charles and Uncle Archie Roach in 2022, two significant First Nations storytellers, musicians and truthtellers.

Meeting Notice April 2024: Integrating Audio into the Gaming Experience

We are back on Zoom for our April meeting

The next online meeting of the AES Melbourne Section will be held on
Monday 8th April 2024 at 7:30pm AEST (UTC+10) – via Zoom.

Game audio educator Nick Harrison will present on the topic of:

Integrating Audio into the Gaming Experience:
Software Packages and Workflows.

In this talk, Nick will walk through topics essential for understanding game audio implementation workflows. He will demonstrate native audio implementation within Unity and then delve into middleware implementation using Wwise and FMOD.
